Britt Trachtenberg

In Night

We slink,

we speak with shut mouths

beneath shrouded clouds.

We scheme

in the night, talking about how we will

steal Sam’s bike that lays on grass in the front yard,

dying of too much sun

and not enough sugar.

We stand beneath the moon’s gentle gaze,

touching hands and dreading sunrise-

when we will go home and pretend

we are asleep.
