As a Childhood Education Major, I spend a lot of time with children, and with books. As I spend more and more time reading books with kiddos, I also reminisce on the days when I would read with my parents and my teachers. Here are 10 books that both my best friends and I loved reading as children:
- If you’ve never read this book, first off, WHAT?! Secondly, you need to go and grab yourself a copy because this was on the top of everyone’s list. This is such a staple to have in your classroom or in the nursery and with the number of life lessons between its pages, it’s guaranteed to hit you in the heart.
- Junie B. Jones Series by Barbara Park
- Once you read the first book, you will most definitely be hooked and end up reading the whole series in no time. These books are amazing and young readers will relate to and be jealous of Junie B. Jones and all of her adventures.
- Oh, the Places You’ll Go! By Dr. Seuss
- Everyone knows this book by Dr. Seuss, and if you haven’t personally read it, I suspect you’ve heard of it or seen it on someone’s shelf. This book is not only perfect for younger kids but has become increasingly popular to give as a graduation gift as we bid our loved ones good luck and farewell.
- Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
- This is another book full of life lessons that will give you all the feels, and if you haven’t read it, chances are you’ve seen the movie. I promise you that even though the movie was six stars, the book is even better!
- Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
- Another book with many life lessons throughout that may make you cry at times, but is 100% worth it. This book reveals the importance of having good friends of all types and proves that anyone can be extraordinary.
- The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister
- The perfect book for teaching kids to share with others. If you were the most beautiful fish in the sea and everyone else wanted your skin, you might not like it. But after reading this book, chances are you’ll want to share with others more often.
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
- As a kid, this book was definitely one of my favorites. It’s such a strong interactive story and helps to teach kids how to count and read. It’s no surprise that this book has won multiple awards since being published.
- The Best Little Monkeys in the World by Natalie Standiford
- Personally, I believe this book to be one of the most underrated children’s books of all times. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend that you do. It’s a funny book that is perfect for all ages to read because of the easy flow with lots of pictures to help out!
- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff
- The original “If You Give a ___ a ____” and there’s a reason why it’s still so popular today. A great story that has inspired many other stories because it was just so darn good.
- Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney
- Ending on a sweet and sappy note, another book that will pull at your heartstrings and make you cry. This book is the perfect bedtime story to read to your little one and the gentle humor and fascinating illustrations will be sure to make your top favorite
