I am pleased to announce that the Gandy Dancer team will be on the move this weekend! Our editors are embarking on a trip to the Buffalo Small Press Fair to debate the beauty of ampersands & conjunctions with seasoned writers & publishers, peruse stacks of kindred journals & explore the inner workings of our literary world.
The Buffalo Small Press Fair is a free, regional event that gathers authors, poets, publishers & booksellers together in Buffalo, NY to promote their projects, passions & grand life schemes. This year, the Fair will take place over the course of two days (Saturday, April 6th from 12:00pm to 6:00pm & Sunday, April 7th from 11:00am to 5:00pm) at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum located on 453 Porter Avenue. This event will offer a host of open readings performed by local authors & poets on Saturday & free workshops that will teach visitors the art of bookmaking, lithography & even origami.
In the midst of all this bookish sweetness, the Gandy Dancer team is ultimately looking forward to coming across established poet Edric Mesmer, who will share his original work in an open reading & peddle his wares with the Poetry Collection of the University at Buffalo on Saturday. “As a sponsor of the event, the Poetry Collection sets up a table featuring many small press titles, aiming to connect with all the publishers, writers, and readers who come by,” Edric said when asked about his plans & expectations for the Fair. “The spirit of the event is also unique year-to-year, as new and returning participants join in the exchange of books and ideas.”
